The Burnt Cathedral

Okay, this one has a bit of history to it.
During the Spanish Inquisition (or the Portuguese Inquisition), the very spot where this church was built was used as a place where the priests would read out out the verdicts of accused heretics and then execute them. Decades after the Inquisition ended, the church was built and became something of a hot spot for marriages.
Then a fire nearly burned down the entire building (along with the city) but people didn't want the church to be rebuilt because the fire was seen as a cleansing of all the killings that happened during the Inquisition. If you look closely, the walls still look to be burnt.

Not the greatest picture, certainly doesn't do the church justice, but it was hard to get a good shot inside. Beautiful and eerie building nonetheless.
